Post 9: Research Day 1; Sorry No Pictures.

So I started the REU today. I met with my mentor and now I should not be blogging but reading.

I started my day with laps in the pool, and while I was doing that I thought of my friend, Rachel's blog and how she was going to compose a blog on Resistance versus Cardio. Well while I was swimming I deduced that the Breast Stroke is resistance and Freestyle is cardio. If she ever gets around to writing it I will put the link on my blog.

At work today I met my mentor and went over the game plan of what I would be doing for the next ten weeks. We came to the conclusion that the first part of this experience would involve me learning both C++ and neuroscience. In order to achieve such a feat I have been assigned homework, aka 6 total chapters in two different books (3 in each) and then I have been given a C++ bible to help me code.

This weather is killing me and I hope my body will adjust soon, until then AC is my friend, and so is the pool.

Post 7: Sanford, FL & Gainesville, FL

Just arrived in Sanford, FL. We were an hour ahead of schedule! Now all I have to do is wait for my car's number to be called and then I am on my way. Once I leave the station it will be 2.5 hours to Gainesville.
The ride wasn't too bad, except I can never really sleep on trains. Even though I had two seats to myself it was still cramped and now the right side of my neck has a knot in it. I would recommend the AutoTrain for those traveling from the north to Florida. It really is convenient. Decreased milage, and less ware and tare. Plus they give you dinner, a movie, and breakfast in the morning.

Post 6: Pottstown, PA & Lorton, VA

I departed my home in central New York on Wednesday morning and made my way to the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pottstown specifically. I was able to spend 3 days and nights with my boyfriend, Derrek.
At Rita's
This morning I said goodbye to him to make the next part of my journey to Florida. From Pottstown, PA I drove 3.5 hours around Baltimore, and DC, to Lorton, VA. Lorton is the starting point, for me, of the AutoTrain. This is a great thing because it allows me to travel to Florida without driving, and it's better than a plane because my car can come with me.
I got to the station just before 1 pm and I checked my car in, handed over the key and then went to the terminal to wait. The train leave at 4pm and will arrive in Sanford, FL at 9:30 tomorrow morning. From there I will be driving another 2.5 hours to Gainesville, FL and my home for the next 10 weeks.
Til tomorrow, when I will be in my apartment, and starting my REU.

Post 5: Beach; Ocean City

Last week I spent 4 days, 3 nights in Ocean City, Maryland. Since it was over a week before Memorial Day it was considered 'off-season.' The boardwalk was dead and all the attractions were closed up and the beaches were empty.
Me at the Atlantic Ocean!
I have also finished 6 books in the past 3 weeks. A friend of mind told me something after finishing book #3: " If you read 2 books a week, in 10 years that's 1000 books. And like Jim Rohn said, you couldn't read 1000 books without it drastically changing your life." My average so far is 2 books a week, maybe I am on my way to changing my life.

Post 1: Nothing too exciting yet

So my current location is Williamsport, PA. For those of you who haven't heard of it: It is the home of the Little League World Series and my college, Lycoming. For those of you who have head of it: I apologize. Nothing really happens here. It has a few restaurants, a movie theater, and a Wegmans! But classes are over and the semester is rapidly ending and in just a few short weeks I will be in Gainesville, Florida.

A couple adventures will be added in before the main event: Graduation, Ocean City, and Home.

A 'little' timeline.
April 22-April 25 Home for Easter weekend (Bringing home stuff from school).
April 25-April 29 Finals week at Lycoming College.
April 30-May 2 Weekend in Lock Haven, PA (about a half hour west of Williamsport)
May 2-May 6 Uncle John's house (Collegeville, PA)
May 6-May 8 Graduation Weekend at Lycoming College
May 9-May 15 Home
May16-May 18 Ocean City, MD
May 19-May 26 Home
May 26 Beginning of my grand adventure.

To be a little more explicit about my grand adventure of this summer:
Last summer I went to Colorado. This summer I am going to Florida! Why you might ask. Research is what I might answer. I will be working at the University of Florida: Gainesville, on a project involving computer modeling and biophysics, hence the neuron_excursion and Biophysics vs. Photography. The goal of this summer is to possible land myself a slot in the graduate program for when I am done with Lycoming, and to visit all the really awesome places in the Southeast US.

I hope you will enjoy the documentation of my journey: photos and physics.

Post 4: We will still be friends forever

My friends graduated yesterday.
Over the past four years, I made friends and lost them, but I still ended up with a pretty good group that I will miss dearly. And as each of them are about to venture out into the world and I remain at Lyco for one more year, I have faith that they will do great things.

Post 3: Senior Week

So for a blog that is supposed to include awesome photos of awesome things that I have done I am not doing a very good job, mainly because I haven't really done anything awesome yet. That will change as of tomorrow night.

Once I get back to Williamsport Rachel and I are going out for drinks, then Thursday is Cinco de Mayo and BALTIMORE!! Pictures of that sure to come. Friday will be lazy (at least that is my prediction). Saturday is one last day where its all about me and my friends. Then Sunday... the big G as people are calling it....

Graduation. Not my graduation but all of my friends'. Tears will ensue. I would like to take this opportunity to say a little something.

Rachel = best friend for life. I feel like college would not have been as (to take a word from her dictionary) ballin' without her. She has become a second sister to me, and I know no matter where life takes us we will still remain close, even if it is through 7 am Skype dates, or late night drunk texts. We got off to a slow start but I am forever grateful that we became friends.
